Preparing for the Coast to Coast walk

In the 1970s, a British accountant and avid fell walker called Alfred Wainright decided to create a walk that started in St Bees on the west coast of England and finished at Robin Hoods Bay on the east coast of England. The walk uses country roads, rights-of-way and ancient footpaths to create one of the most popular long distance walks (of around 300km) in England.

The Coast to Coast walk passes through three of Britain’s finest national parks: the Lake District National Park, Yorkshire Dales National Park, and North York Moors National Park. As accommodation is limited as most walkers do, we planned the trip about a year in advance.

We were helped by friends of Carol and Stephen who had completed the Coast to Coast in October 2007.
